The reason is, that some people may not have public profile images or their profile may be completely private, e.g. they can’t be found via name search. People with such restrictive privacy settings simply don’t work. For loading a friends image I use an official facebook function, if this function does not return a contact picture but a placeholder, there is nothing I can do here, but hacking, which I neither can nor want to do.
